The Basics of Poker

Poker is a card game played between two or more players and using chips that represent money. There are many different variations of poker, but they all involve betting on a hand of cards. The goal is to have the best hand at the end of a round of betting.

Each player has 2 hole cards that they keep hidden from other players and there is a round of betting after each dealer reveals one card, called the turn. Then there is another round of betting after the dealer reveals the final fifth community card, known as the river. When all the players are done betting and deciding what to do with their hands, they show their cards and the player with the best hand wins the pot.

The cards are arranged in suits (spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs). There is also an ace that can be high or low depending on the game. Some games allow wild cards, or jokers, which can take any rank or suit and add to your hand. The highest poker hand is a royal flush (Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 of the same suit).
