Poker is a card game played with a pot of chips. Players place these chips into the pot during betting intervals and the highest hand at the end wins the pot. The player who acts first in a betting interval, or the button (which passes clockwise), has the privilege or obligation to open a bet.<\/p>\n
A good starting hand is two cards of the same rank, but it does not have to be a pair. Pocket kings and queens, for example, are strong hands that can beat most other hands, but they will lose to an ace on the flop or even worse if there are a lot of high cards in the board.<\/p>\n
When playing poker online it is not possible to read your opponent’s tells, so observing their betting pattern is the best way to see how they play. Watching their timing is also important, since a long time to call usually means weakness and a fast call often indicates strength.<\/p>\n
When the dealer puts a third community card on the table this is called the “turn” and again everyone gets the chance to bet, check, raise or fold.
