How to Play Poker

Poker

Poker is a game that can be played with any number of players. Each player is given a hand of cards face down. The aim is to use your cards to form the best possible hand. If you have a bad hand, you can still win the pot by bluffing. You can also win by putting in a bet that no other player calls.

The first player to make a bet is called the first bettor. Other players must match the bet. A bet may be a raise, a check, a drop or a call.

A pot is a group of all the bets made by all the players in a single deal. A pot is won by the highest ranking poker combination.

Before the start of a hand, a dealer assigns values to chips. The chips are typically black, red or white. In some games, there are deuces wild.

The ace can be used for both high and low hands. There is a limit to how many chips can be placed in a pot. For example, if a player has a pair of aces, he can bet up to 14 chips.

After the cards are dealt, each player is dealt one more card. Players may shuffle the cards themselves or have the dealer do it.

The player to the left of the dealer is the small blind. This player must put in a small bet before the cards are drawn. Another player has the big blind.
